Day after Tomorrow

I just came from watching The Day after Tomorrow. So far Roland Emmerichs best movie. Yes, I know that he is not known for high cinematograpic art, and this movie is no exception. The story line as far as the main protagonists are concerned is highly predictable, the laws of physics apply only when dramatically convenient etc pp.

But: Emmerich made a movie to hammer into the US audience that wasting a quarter of the planets energy supply is no longer an accepted lifestyle. The gulf stream (scientifically called "north atlantic thermohaline") suddenly stops and the global climate changes to an new ice age. The computer renderings are well done, the Tsunami that swallows Manhattan looked better then any rendered before, and the tornados wasting Los Angeles look rather natural. And finally having a Dick Chaney look-alike admitting defeat in a Speech to the Nation on Weather Channel is just great.
