Delete your Orkut accounts – Now!

Google is getting evil. We all knew it would happen, but now is the time. Orkut (googles social networking service) now forces every user to associate the account with an Google Mail account. The ultimate data treasure trove. You not only getting the social network nicely mapped, you also get all the content! Probably in one database! How convenient. Googles old motto “Do no evil.” has apparently been deprecated. Censorship for chinese users, sustained rumors about intelligence ties etc. pp.

After converting my orkut account to a Google Account, will my use of orkut be associated with my use of other Google services?

I am just trying to find out how to delete an Orkut account without associating it with an gmail account, I will report here on the associated problems. If you happen to have an Orkut account, delete it now and demand proof that the data has been deleted. And ask them too how to do that without having a gmail account, so they will explain it upfront.

    Seems as if it is possible to delete the complete Google Account later on at . A form presents the explicit option to delete Google and Orkut information. Whatever that means.

    I can see the concerns, but it’s a pretty standard business move for Google to make. Their financial model is based on advertising, it’s only right that they access certain information to provide us with free services (with their costs covered by advertising).

    It doesn’t seem to want me to do that and I have no gmail account coupled to my Orkut account. Or at least, so I think. I did create a gamil account once, but never used it. Strange…

    If you’d like to permanently delete your orkut account, please follow these steps:

    1. Select the “Home” link in the blue bar at the top of the page.
    2. Click on the “settings” button under your photo.
    3. Click the “delete account” button under your photo.

    If you are a member of both orkut and Joga.com, you will have three choices: delete your Joga.com account, delete your orkut account, and “delete all of my accounts”. If you wish to delete only one account, please be sure to choose carefully, as you will permanently delete this account.

    If you are a member of orkut only, you will see a link to “delete my account.” Clicking this link will re-direct you to the “Delete orkut” page of your Google Account. To permanently delete your orkut profile, follow the instructions. You will no longer be able to log into orkut.com, but your Google Account will remain active.

    To permanently delete your Google Account, including all services associated with it, click “Delete all account info” and follow the instructions. If you select this option, you will not be able to restore this account or the services associated with it such as orkut, Joga.com, or Gmail.

    Please note that it may take up to 48 hours for your profile to be completely deleted from orkut.com.

    To those who want to delete their orkut account… listen up.. just go to your profile. To the left, in the menu press the “Settings” button. Once you are there, take a look at the menu to the left which says “delete account”. Just click that. Orkut requires your gmail password to delete your account.

    Remember that you cannot get back your account so think carefully before deleting it.

    I followed all the instructions aswell, but after 60 hrs my account still running..why?
    ( my orkut is google aswell..mean no body invited me..I created google and using the same ID.)

    and I’ve deleted 2nd account two months back..my profil is still there..but I can’t get in side..people leaving scraps…its so frustratig..:(

    one of my friend sent me a request to join orkut on my yahoo id. so i just added myself on the orkut through my yahoomail.after having wasted half of my year doing orkut i was really not interested in doing any more orkut now.. so i deleted my account..as per the instructions given on the orkut….To the left, in the menu press the “Settings” button. then it says “delete account”. Orkut requires your gmail password to delete your account…i have done it all atleast 10 times in this month, but it really dont seem to delete….earlier while using orkut i joined my gmail account so that i can enter orkut profile through my gmail account itself…….now the problem is that thinking my orkut account is cojoined to my gmail account i tried deleting my orkut account and my gmail account .. i thought all is fine.. but now too my orkut seems to be active.. and my gmail account is deleted. i cant enter neither through orkut nor through gmail….i am just going mad….i dont know what to do…joining orkut was the biggest mistake i ever did and even more that deleting my orkut account i deleted my gmail account too .. friends can still see my profile i m always active on my orkut..they keep on sending me the scraps but i m not able to enter….please people help me out as i’m really going mad now…please.. help me out…thanks

    Delete all ur contacts, scraps, communities and then try. I was able to successfully delete my account after deleting all contents.
